The atomizer construction is based upon an aerostatic air bearing, the radial and axial bearing of which are equipped with micro nozzles. The atomizer is powered by a pneumatic radial turbine. An axial high-contrast encoder disc is attached on the turbine side.

The turbine air duct has been designed to minimize pressure loss from the intake to the blades. This leads to an increased pressure at the turbine blades.

Excellent dry-running properties

All radial and axial bearing surfaces are made of a special bearing bronze material with excellent self-lubricating properties. This has led to a substantial improvement of dry-running properties and durability. The housing is thermally decoupled thus not interfering with the bearing geometry.

A strong cooling effect (-4°C) on the exhaust air side which may cause thrust bearing tipping, is inhibited by symmetrical distribution of the exhaust air ducts.

A thermally decoupled bearing bush prevents a reduction of the radial bearing gap in the rear bearing area otherwise likely to occur due to the cooled down bearing case. Sturdy air bearing with a heightened radial load-carrying capacity for robotic employment.

The radial bearing was equipped with a load-carrying capacity of 82N at the front end of the shaft so that it is suited for handling high velocities, as required when using robots, of up to 4G. It is further equipped to cope with the unique forces and movements of spray robots.

There is a minimum requirement of 5 bars of air bearing pressure in order to prevent any damage to the bearing. In some individual cases or for special purposes, an air bearing pressure of 8 bars may be useful or even required.
